DCCs put to the test - metrological traceability is just a click away

We have replaced the conventional paper-based calibration certificate with the digital calibration certificate (DCC). This does not only contain all the necessary information but can also be read and interpreted by machines and algorithms.

As part of the QI-Digital project, we have established the digital calibration certificate (DCC) at BAM in close cooperation with QI partners such as PTB and DAkkS. This development means that digitization goes far beyond a simple virtual representation of a paper document (e.g. in PDF format). By using a markup language (XML), all the data on the calibration certificate is organized in a structured manner and thus made machine-readable. The most important information is also machine-interpretable, which enables automated further processing in the recipient's QM system.

Our aim is to achieve a high degree of automation through digitalization, both in the creation of the DCC and in the further use and processing of the metrological data by the users of the measuring devices. This strategy offers the industry vital advantages in the area of quality assurance, as it makes processes more efficient and avoids the errors caused by manual data processing.

BAM's accredited calibration laboratory (D-K-11075-08) has successfully established the DCC for resistance thermometers (according to DKD-R 5-1) and has already received limited approval from DAkkS to issue it as the valid certificate reporting the calibration results as part of its accreditation.
